Fees:

All check ride fees must be paid at the time of the check ride.

• Airplane check rides (all except initial flight instructor):
  • Check ride: $800
  • Recheck (ground/flight): $600
  • Recheck (flight only, one or two maneuvers): $300

• Airplane check rides (initial flight instructor):
  • Check ride: $1500
  • Recheck (ground/flight): $800
  • Recheck (flight only, one or two maneuvers): $300

• If you are applying for a certificate on the basis of your foreign pilot’s license, or currently have a FAA pilot certificate issued on the basis of your foreign pilot’s certificate, there will be an additional charge of $150

Check rides are normally conducted from Albany, Oregon (identifier S12). An additional charge of $2.00/mile (each way) will be incurred for check rides conducted at other airports. Applicants are responsible for arranging a quiet and private location for check rides conducted at locations other than Albany. If conducting a check ride at HIO, please do not utilize check ride room 1 or 2. I will only conduct check rides in rooms 3 and 4.

Check rides conducted at locations other than Albany will be subject to additional travel fees if the check ride is not completed due to a discontinuance or paperwork issue that is unable to be resolved quickly.

Please coordinate with your instructor to make sure your paperwork (logbook documenting required aeronautical experience, ground training, endorsements, aircraft paperwork, etc.) is in order. You may utilize the referenced information below to help you with this. Non-Refundable Deposits:

I have had an increasingly number of applicants scheduling check rides and then cancelling for various reasons. In order to curb applicants from cancelling on short notice (either due to not being ready, scheduling with me and then taking a check ride with another examiner prior to our scheduled date, etc.) I am now requiring a portion of the check ride fees to be made at the time of scheduling. This deposit is only refundable under the following circumstances:

• You have an application in IACRA signed by both your recommending flight instructor and your flight school (if applying under part 141) by at least 8 AM the day prior to your scheduled check ride, and
• Weather (on day of check ride), maintenance (on day of check ride), or another extenuating circumstance (on day of check ride) beyond your control is preventing you from taking your check ride, as originally scheduled.

Your deposit will not be refunded for the following reasons:

• Weather/maintenance/sickness, etc. prevented you from completing your training. If you are not confident that you will be ready on the date you scheduled, I would highly recommend you wait to schedule your check ride.
• You found another DPE to conduct your check ride on an early date, after scheduling with me.
• Your paperwork (legal name, graduation certificate, foreign validation letter, etc.) is incorrect or invalid. Call me ahead of time if you have any questions about your paperwork. I am happy to review it before you schedule.

Deposits are only valid for the date and type of check ride you scheduled. In other words, you may not utilize your scheduled check ride to conduct a “recheck” if you previously scheduled a “full” check ride without forfeiting your deposit.

Deposits vary based on location of check ride and other information. They are calculated and displayed at the time of booking.
